Hugo Anastacio is a Manila-based Filipino photographer who focuses on editorial and portrait photography. He is currently studying photography in De La Salle College of St. Benilde (DLS-CSB).
He borrows from the senses and weaves it into his work. Sound, in particular, always finds a way to seep into the crevices of his images. His sensitive ears are on par with his sharp eye for detail which blends beautifully through the lens. Like Murakami is to the Beatles, he captures a song and reinvents it.
But music is only a means to an end. His lust for life is what moves him to take the picture, longing for the stories lived but untold. He undresses the subject with his affinity for shadow and light, revealing an intimate conversation between subject and viewer. Through his steady hand, he dives past the surface and brings forth an image with a heartbeat.
Even dissonance is a melody. There is lingering poetry waiting to be seen for those who listen. Silent obsessions, muted desires, echoing passions: he looks beyond what the eye can see and pays attention to the inner workings of the soul.
